THE FIRST CLASS OF MY SECOND PERIOD...!!!

I am happy today because I know that I am getting new experiences every day I teach.
Today’s class was good. Many things went well and I think that I reached the objective I was supposed to get with my students this day.
In today’s class I had the opportunity to teach with a new group. I was kind of worried because I knew that when teaching adolescents , teachers have to be not only well prepared to answer any question students may have, but also to be ready to understand first what they are going to teach. Something that went well today was the warm-up activity. I brought a lot of flashcards with famous people and they had to say something about the person they choose, but using the past tense. They enjoyed this activity and also the new teacher I have nowadays.

Something that did not work well was that I didn`t know that students didn`t have the appendix we were going to use. I asked the teacher, but he said that I should have asked before. What I did,was that I continued with the Grammar Phase. The only good thing in this is that at the end the teacher didn`t say anything about it.

The activities I presented helped them to work faster than in the previous activity in which I was evaluating my objective. For me, the activities were according to what I was asking the students to do in it.
For these two activities I used the board, but for the oral exercises I tried to use some flashacards with actions because we`re working with the past tense and the past continuous too. I was always monitoring and checking students`work.
I used different classroom management such as semi-circle, circle and rows. I also used different interaction formats. For example : pair- work, group work and working in trios.
I really liked the way in which my students worked today because they spoke more english when I asked them to say the sentences they wrote. The most interesting thing was that I really enjoyed today`s class it was really regarding for me and I think that it was also for my new students.

  2. Hi Cory!!
What calls my attention about your class is that you and your students were having fun! I think that in a classroom, the word "fun" has a very important meaning because that tells that you created a good atmosphere in which everybody was taking some of the motivation you were sharing with them.

I congratulate you because as always you brought really nice visual aids. As Monica said, you have a great ability making creative things!

  3. A new group is a new challenge, isn´it Cory? I think about the words I read from you about getting the objective you were supposed to achieve with them, that is a succesful experience and a good sign of your development as a great teacher and it is better when you write about the way the students felt in the class that is one of the best achievements you should feel proud. I really wish you continue getting new achievements and the best thing is the piece of learning of every class.

  5. To teach a new group has been always a challenge for everyone of us, especially when we know who the troublemaker of the group is, however, we have faced previous situations and I know you will find the way to face whatever situation that comes in your practice. I know how hard you work with your groups, that's why you reach your objectives and that's a very rewarding aspect for you as a teacher.
Congrats my friend! Continue working hard : )
